Look what I found at Toys R Us! I hadn't seen this one before, not even at the LEGO Store. Might be a TrU exclusive. As soon as I finish my Sopwith Camel, I'll put this together.

Oh god... A childhood memory just came back. I used to draw this logo on my preschool stuff, I used to say Octan was my favorite racing team because I was building their cars. *wipes tear*.
And now I'm on my way to graduating as a Mechanical Engineer...

Just searched on Google, and apparently it's not TrU exclusive. It can be found at Barnes & Noble , among others.

Looks like a retool of their old Ferrari sets! That's awesome

I have most all of the old Ferrari sets (see my avatar), including all three of the big racers. I wish they'd keep doing them, or offer some other manufacturers in the US.

Oh damn. I want this. Though I still haven't gotten around to putting together the VW Type 2 kit.

This is the first LEGO I ever bought as an adult. I got it as a souvenir from Legoland in Billund, DK. That was about 15 years ago.

THAT ONE! HAH! *tears* This little fucker. Does yours still live?
I had more than one set of these Octan cars (one with the gas station and one with the truck), actually. And I used the livery pieces to make a big formula car I powered with a electric motor from a Sony Walkman I took apart. It was my electric drag race car. I never won a race, but I was sure proud because my friend's cars were actual RC cars, not Lego.

Yup. That's my photo (I just took it). This is a much-cherished little car. It's the only souvenir from a fabulous trip to DK that I look at every day—it came from the Motherland of Lego. I know it wouldn't be the same, but you could probably still find one online somewhere. It might cost a fortune, though. Sorry, you can't have mine!

Hah! Mine might live somewhere in my Lego boxes in several pieces. But the livery is certainly off already. Last time I saw this little guy, his helmet was just red. No stars on it.
I remember dismantling my bed once to repaint my room, in 2005 I think, and finding one of the Octan stickers between the pieces.
Nice picture, man. Nice little car. I'd never propose to separate you from this little guy! Just found this one, though:

That may not be the original helmet. My boys have played with my Ferraris and this, and the helmets often get swapped. This might be the helmet from one of the earlier Ferrari sets that didn't include a named driver (I've got Michael, Rubens, Felipe and Kimi, plus a handful of generic drivers).
Edit: I just clicked on your ebay link. Looks like the starred helmet is, in fact, original. And for $9, it's a steal!

Might be. I'll have to search when I visit my mom.
I had several other sets that came with helmets. I didn't have a Ferrari one, though. When Technik started coming to my country I never bought the regular ones again (by bought I mean helping my parents on the farm and asking for Lego sets). Technik was so much better for my projects.
I once negotiated with my parents, and got no gift or any other thing for a whole year (easter, birthday... not even grandparents) to get the Technik F1 on christmas. Worth it.

I still have most of that darn thing! I'm just missing two of the Octan flat pieces.

Here's a sampling of my Lego Ferrari collection. There are a few more smaller cars, plus garages, finish lines, etc. I've also got both the transporters. I'm not sure I want to know just how much money I have tied up in Lego, between the stuff I get for my boys and the stuff I get for myself.
